Thank you IGP such a wonderful topic
This is just another fascinating webinar topic about International Political Economy (IPE) also known as Global Political Economy (GPE). Although both terms are often used interchangeably, using the word ‘global’ is vital and more preferable as it indicates a wider scope in political economy that reaches beyond relations between states. My takes from the lecture: This introduces the bottleneck conceptual and theoretical terrain of IPE where politics shapes the global economy and global economy shapes politics. The concept of IPE encompasses the interaction of politics and economics as goods, services, money, people, and ideas move across borders. IPE scope encompasses the political economy of international trade, international finance, international relation, multinational cooperation, and hegemony. IPE theories considered economic liberalism, econ nationalism, econ structuralism, and globalization. Probably the best-studied area of IPE is trade followed closely by monetary issues. As international organizations such as World Trade Organization (WTO) and International Monetary Fund (IMF), and potential investments agreements are the focus of sustained political attention and at the forefront of debates about globalization, applying the political tools of IPE more seriously to these institutions is likely to be both important and fruitful. Additionally, FE economics forecasts from the world's leading economies claimed that the COVID-19 crisis has seemingly accelerated this change: China was one of the few major economies to record growth last year for instance, while the U.S. and Europe were mired in deep recessions. The next several years should see a continuation of recent trends, with China and India further closing the economic gap with developed economies. Thank you so much IGP for organizing this platform where it enables us to learn more beyond our own respective studies or disciplines and across borders, thereby making our learning multi-dimensional. Superb!
